John Jay’s Silenok ready to roll
John Jay will compete in the Class AA sectionals, something senior all-section forward Nicole Silenok and her teammates are just fine with.
“We played two defending state champions this season (Class AA’s John Jay-East Fishkill and Class A’s Rye),” Silenok said. “I think we are going to play well in the sectionals.”
Those were the first two games of the year, both in Cross River, with John Jay (10-4-2) losing to the Patriots 1-0 before tying Rye 0-0.

“When we played as well as we did in those games, I knew we were capable of having a good season,” said Silenok, who has tallied nine goals and four assists to lead the Indians.
Silenok is now hoping that her John Jay soccer career, along with fellow seniors Katie Deluca, Lauren Hafkemeyer, Ciara Hautau and Kelly Sposato, can end on a high note. She is also hoping that another senior, Mika Cucullo, returns for sectionals after suffering an ACL injury back in May.

“It would mean so much for her to be able to come back,” Silenok said. “We’re both senior captains, we’ve played with each other outside of the high-school season in club ball. For her to come back for the sectionals would be great.”
